Certifications
Basic Life Support
Adult - Pediatric CPR/AED

My knowledge of CPR/AED and BLS is grounded in evidence-based practice, utilizing current guidelines from organizations such as the American Heart Association to guide resuscitation efforts. Research consistently demonstrates that early CPR and defibrillation improve survival outcomes, supporting the importance of maintaining competency in these lifesaving skills. Through simulation exercises and clinical learning experiences, I have applied evidence-based interventions while developing confidence in emergency response procedures.
ACEN 4.4 Use of Systematic Evaluation Data
The Health Assessment Skills Check-Off and DocuCare assignments demonstrate my achievement of ACEN Standard 4.4 by participating in learning experiences that were intentionally designed within the nursing curriculum and implemented according to program requirements. Through the skills check-off process, I performed comprehensive head-to-toe assessments using evidence-based techniques and received faculty evaluation to ensure competency. In DocuCare, I documented patient assessment findings, nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes using standardized nursing documentation practices. These experiences reinforced critical thinking, clinical judgment, patient safety, communication, and information management skills necessary for professional nursing practice. Successful completion of these curriculum-based activities demonstrates progression toward program outcomes and readiness to provide safe, quality patient-centered care.
ACEN 4.5 Ongoing Improvements / Reflection
My Medical-Surgical clinical experience at Sentara Leigh Hospital demonstrates achievement of ACEN Standard 4.5 by integrating knowledge gained from nursing and general education courses into patient care. During this rotation, I applied concepts from anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, communication, and evidence-based nursing practice while caring for adult patients with complex medical conditions. I performed patient assessments, administered medications under supervision, documented care in the electronic health record, and collaborated with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. These experiences strengthened my clinical judgment, communication, patient safety, and critical-thinking skills. Through this course and clinical experience, I progressed toward the program learning outcomes and developed the knowledge and competencies necessary for safe, patient-centered nursing practice.
ACEN 4.5 Research Project

Research Project – Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Education and Screening Program Among College Students
My Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) research project demonstrates achievement of ACEN Standard 4.5 by integrating evidence-based practice, health promotion, research, and patient advocacy concepts learned throughout the nursing curriculum. The purpose of the project was to evaluate the effectiveness of an IPV education and screening program on undergraduate students' knowledge, attitudes, and willingness to seek help. Using a pretest-posttest design, data were collected and analyzed to determine changes in participants' understanding of IPV and available support resources. Findings showed an improvement in participant knowledge and willingness to seek assistance following the educational intervention, supporting the value of early education and screening efforts. This project strengthened my ability to critically evaluate research evidence, collect and interpret data, and apply findings to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Through collaboration with faculty and peers, I developed skills in communication, leadership, information management, and quality improvement.

Leadership
As a leader, I encouraged critical thinking and open discussion regarding the impact of IPV on individuals and communities. I assisted in analyzing data, interpreting results, and presenting findings in a manner that promoted awareness and understanding of this important public health issue. My leadership helped ensure that project goals were met while maintaining professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.

Reflections

As I reflect on my journey through the nursing program, I recognize significant growth in my knowledge, clinical skills, leadership abilities, and professional development. Through coursework, simulation experiences, research projects, and more than 400 hours of direct patient care in medical-surgical, pediatric, maternal-child, mental, and public health settings, I have developed the competencies necessary to provide safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care.Throughout the program, I strengthened my ability to apply the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care for diverse patient populations. Clinical experiences allowed me to integrate classroom knowledge with real-world patient care while developing critical thinking and clinical judgment skills. By utilizing evidence-based practice, I learned to incorporate current research findings into patient care decisions to improve health outcomes and promote quality and safety.
Nursing Outcomes
Safety
Apply evidenced based nursing care in planning care for individuals, families, groups and diverse populations.
Effective care plans are individualized to address the patient’s medical condition, risk factors, and physical and psychosocial needs. Nursing interventions such as medication administration, infection prevention, fall precautions, wound care, and patient education help reduce safety risks and support healing.

Evidenced Based Practice
Apply knowledge of the nursing process promoting health in adult patients living with chronic diseases.
